Celebrating 10 Years of Second Chances at The Social Pantry’s Event
Last month, we had the honour of attending a spectacular celebration at the iconic Mansion House in London—an event hosted by The Social Pantry, marking 10 years of employing prison-leavers and transforming lives through meaningful work.
It was a truly memorable evening, filled with incredible food, inspiring moments, and a powerful sense of community and purpose. The night stood as a tribute to the organisations, leaders, and individuals who are committed to giving people a fresh start and a future to be proud of.
Regis Banqueting owner Ryan Longmuir was invited to join the celebration, and he chose to bring along two members of our team—Brian and James—whose stories reflect the heart of what we believe in at Regis: opportunity, compassion, and second chances.
Brian’s Journey: From Prison Fellowship to Purpose
At 32, Brian has faced more challenges than many. Much of his youth was spent in and out of prison, caught in cycles of addiction and crime. But everything started to change when he connected with Prison Fellowship, a group rooted in prayer, community, and long-term support.
Prison Fellowship volunteers support prisons, offering encouragement, prayer, and life-changing programmes. Their mission—to meet people where they are and walk with them through change—is something deeply close to Ryan’s heart.
Through this connection, Brian found his way to Regis Banqueting, joining us immediately after his release. Since then, he has worked hard, grown in confidence, and is committed to being both a strong employee and a dedicated father.
Brian’s experience in London
Brian thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to work at Mansion House during The Social Pantry’s celebration. Being in a new environment—with unfamiliar surroundings, new people, and a different pace of life—was inspiring for him.
He loved seeing London up close, taking in the atmosphere, and being part of such an important occasion. He described it as a brilliant opportunity that boosted his confidence and reminded him how far he has come.
James’ Story: Breaking Cycles and Building a Future
At 38, James has battled addiction for most of his life. Through Street Connect, a recovery programme supporting individuals rebuilding their lives, he found the structure and encouragement he needed—and eventually, a connection to Regis Banqueting.
Since joining us full-time, he has been dedicated, hardworking, and focussed on creating a better future. His next goal is one he is incredibly proud of: joining the army and continuing his path of self-improvement.
James’ experience at Mansion House
James shared that he valued every moment of The Social Pantry’s event. As an important member of our KP team, being chosen to attend made him feel recognised and appreciated.
Travelling to London was a major milestone. Having rarely travelled outside Scotland, he described it as stepping into a completely different world. He was fascinated by the buildings, the culture, and the energy of the city.
He also enjoyed stepping outside his usual role—working alongside new teams, helping with service, and taking on more responsibilities than usual. This experience has already opened new opportunities for him within Regis, including more client-facing roles at events, something he has embraced wholeheartedly.
Two Different Journeys, One Shared Focus: Change
Brian and James come from two very different walks of life, but they share something powerful:
a desire to change, a willingness to work hard, and the courage to start again.
They are role models within our team and powerful examples of what can happen when people are given a genuine chance to rebuild their lives.
Why We Partner with Organisations Like Prison Fellowship and Street Connect
At Regis Banqueting, delivering exceptional events is important, but our deeper purpose runs alongside this.
We believe in compassion, opportunity, and offering people a real second chance.
We believe in seeing potential, not past mistakes.
We believe in supporting those who want to rebuild their lives with dignity.
Working with organisations such as Prison Fellowship and Street Connect allows us to reach and support those who need opportunities the most. These partnerships change futures, families, and communities.
As long as someone is willing to step forward, work hard, and commit to change, we are willing to support them, guide them, and open the door.
A Celebration of More Than an Anniversary
The Social Pantry’s event at Mansion House was about far more than marking a decade of employment initiatives. It was a celebration of people—their growth, resilience, and potential.
We left the evening inspired and motivated to continue creating opportunities, investing in our team, and demonstrating what is possible when people believe in one another.
To Brian and James: we are incredibly proud of you.
To the organisations paving the way: thank you.
To everyone who believes in second chances: let us continue making them happen.
Here’s to many more years of hope, transformation, and renewed futures.
